The Voice

In the movies, God's voice is a disembodied human voice that comes from the air, from a bush, from "above", often accompanied by a floating image of a man's face. I think mankind has come to believe the image, the movie voice of God, and of "the gods" of old. We all know it's impossible for a floating image and a disembodied voice to actually show up....but it's a comfortable image to believe in.

When the gods of Olympus spoke to men, it wasn't in a disembodied voice from the sky. When God spoke to Moses, showing him a burning bush, the voice would have been in his head, not out in the air, aloud. What makes noise isn't God. It's the "still, small voice" that is God, and that voice only exists in your mind. In this context, "in your mind" is misleading, for it truly is in your mind that God speaks to you. The voice enters your thoughts, and becomes a part of them. That's "The Voice."
